How has poverty changed?
Below the Line 2026 revisits the original 2018 poverty report with housing, work, education, transportation, and peer-city comparisons. It includes both reports and notes on the source data, including the limits of COVID-era comparisons.
What if the form doesn't fit the problem?
The Cityline snow analysis looks at residents reporting snow-plowing needs through other service-request categories. The selected category and the written description can tell different stories about the same request.
The article preserves the source notebook so readers can inspect the sample and method.
What can public records tell us about a property?
The Property Atlas combines Syracuse parcels with matched city records and Census tract context. Coverage is incomplete, and a missing match doesn't establish that a property has no records. Automated image observations are labeled separately from city data.
