Work ยท City Operations
Behavioral Analytics and Tax Collections
A simple data-informed intervention that made it easier for residents to act and generated more than $1.5 million for Syracuse.
The problem
City government often has plenty of information but not enough useful communication. In this case, the question was whether a small change in how residents received information could change behavior.
What we tried
We used behavioral insights and available data to design a clearer intervention, then measured what happened rather than assuming the message would work.
My role
I helped frame the problem, connect the data to an operational test, and make the result useful to the people responsible for the program.
What happened
The intervention generated more than $1.5 million in additional revenue for Syracuse.
What I learned
Not every public-sector improvement needs a large new system. Sometimes the most valuable work is noticing a small point of friction and being willing to test a better way.
